Day 2 – Simple Prayer Journal – Cover and Index Page

Are you ready to begin creating your Simple Prayer Journal?  Today we’re going to keep it really simple and fun.  We’re going to start with just two pages.  The Cover and Index pages.

Before you create these two pages, be sure you decide on the type of binder or notebook you’ll be using.  I’ll be using 8 ½” x 11” pages for any free Printables, so you may wish to create yours in that size also.  I like to use this size because it allows so much space for writing in, or for adding pictures (we’ll talk more about that in later posts).

Here are my two favorite Simple Prayer Journal notebook options:

  • Use a basic 3 ring binder with an insertable cover page, copy paper and/or regular notebook paper and a 3 hole punch.
  • Use an Arc notebook, copy paper (slightly heavier paper is really nice, but you can also just use the basic 20# paper) and an Arc punch. This is my favorite type of notebook.

Resources

You will find a Resources page here so that you can see exactly what I items I am referencing throughout this Simple Prayer Journal series.

Simple Prayer Journal – Cover

The first page we are going to need is the Cover Page.  We have so many options.  You can choose to draw your own (I can’t draw at all so that is not an option for me), create a collage with pictures, get creative with washi tape,  or write out “My Prayer Journal” with Sharpies or colored pencils. Those are just a few ideas.

You can create a cover any way you want to.  It can be as simple or as fancy as you want it to be.  Some other options are to print a cover you create on your computer (use whatever program you are familiar with – I like Word if I’m just using a verse, or a canvas design program if I want a picture plus words – there are some free ones).

Check out Day 3 of this series to see some ideas for your Cover.  I hope they will help get your creative juices flowing.

Let’s Share Photographs of our Simple Prayer Journals

On Sundays, rather than write a post, I’ll just plan to share some pictures.  I’ll typically be publishing the Sunday posts on Saturday.  I’d love for you to share some pictures of your Simple Prayer Journal with me.

If you email them to me, I’ll try to share some of those on a Sunday post also.

You could also post them on the Gift of Simple facebook page.  That would be an awesome place for us to share pictures with each other of some of our pages as we create our Simple Prayer Journals.

Simple Prayer Journal – Index

Following the Cover Page, let’s create an Index Page (or two).  Just create a page that reads “Index” or “Contents” at the top.  We’ll start writing on this page later on, so let’s put this as the second page in our Prayer Journal.

Don’t Do This Yet!

Please don’t put any numbers on your pages yet.  We are just beginning our Simple Prayer Journal.  We will add page numbers later on after we’ve made decisions about what pages to put where.   You want to have a lot of your pages created before you begin numbering them.  You may want to put your pages in a different order than I do.  That’s fine.  Having an Index page we can use will be very helpful to us as we make our Simple Prayer Journals our very own.

Next Week

As we continue creating our Simple Prayer Journal pages next week, we will begin with using The Lord’s Prayer, as found in Matthew 6: 9-13, to guide us.  How wonderful that the Lord Jesus prayed to His Father while He was here on earth to help instruct us on some of the things we should include in our prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

We’ll begin next week with creating some pages that will help us give Praise to the Lord during our prayer time.  There’s going to be a free Printable for this page.  It’s a Worksheet that I love.  You’ll be able to add to it as often as you want.  I think you will love this page also.  It will really help you personalize your Praises during your prayer time.
